The Allegheny Portage Railroad covered a 36 mile stretch up and down the sides of Allegheny Mountain between Johnstown (Cambria Co.) and Hollidaysburg (Blair Co.). Built between 1831 and 1833, the Railroad used a system of inclined planes to link the two lines of the Pennsylvania Canal. Dr. James Anderson (1782-1858) practices medicine in Ardmore (Montgomery County), Pa. Of note to these papers are his father Isaac Anderson (1760-1835), grand father, Patrick Anderson (1719-1793) and son Jospeh Anderson.
